Woodchute Mountain; Jerome, October 5, 2018

After recent rains, the weather forecast looked great. I’d been to Woodchute Mountain three times, but not since 2012. So it was high time to go back. Today I was blessed by cool temperatures and clear air with a few clouds.

People on the trail included two guys hiking as I approached Woodchute Tank, then a group of seven at the tank. On the way back I met a couple who were climbing the mountain (also I saw them after the hike), then two girls walking their dogs.

Not many flowers this time, but some of the leaves are starting to turn. Lots of lizards.

The Woodchute Trail takes you up the mountain, then a side trail goes to a nearby overlook. There you can see all over the Verde Valley and across to the San Francisco Peaks, tops in Arizona. It’s a round trip—hike back the way you came.
