Hackamore TH to Dome Mountain TH; Goldfields, Dec. 18, 2020 GPS Map

First, thanks to my daughter Clara for hiking with me today!

The north half of Hackamore Road, a BLM road, hasn’t been graded in a long time. It’s full of chuckholes and wash-outs, so rough that high clearance and 4WD are required. Clara made it in a Subaru Forester, as did I after the hike.

The Orohai Trail near Hackamore Trailhead has been re-routed. No signs, no cairns, no nothin’. People are getting lost there all the time. Fortunately I know where the trail is, so we found it. Once you are going northwest in Hackamore Canyon, the trail is easy to follow.

When we started from Hackamore Trailhead, the day was cool but not windy. As we walked along, it warmed up to the low 60s. We didn’t meet anyone until we got to FR 1356, and we didn’t meet any hikers until we turned left on FR 10. The hike was almost over when we met a couple walking their dogs.
