Deer Tanks Trail–FR 10; Goldfield Mountains, November 14, 2019 | GPS Map |
Hadn’t done this hike in over seven years, so it’s high time. By getting to Idaho Access at first light, I could continue my series of Goldfield sunrise hikes. I had the wilderness to myself until I got to the place where FR 10 meets the road to the microwave tower. There a fellow and his dog were in a pickup truck with a camper top. The dog announced my presence and then quit barking when I walked by. Later I met several other campers along FR 10. The real adventure was after the hike. I got back to my car, put everything away, changed shoes, and was ready to leave. The car wouldn't start. So I called home. No Answer. Called Clara. No answer. Then I called AAA. After the usual rigmarole, they sent a truck from Apache Sands. The driver jump-started my car, and I followed him to Apache Sands for a new battery. By then it was well after 2:00 PM, so I could have a Senior Special at Sweet Tomatoes for my late lunch. |
